Frequently Asked Questions

» How is GTA-WWU related to Global Technology Academy (GTA) that existed from 1998-2008?

GTA-WWU was founded by former members of GTA. It is loosely modeled after GTA, but operates independently. Our preservation of GTA’s name is meant to keep alive our vision of what GTA was to us, based on our own personal experiences.

» How is GTA-WWU related to Associated Students (AS) and Western Washington University (WWU)?

GTA-WWU is recognized by WWU’s Associated Students (AS) as an AS club.

» Is GTA-WWU a nonprofit organization?

As an AS club, GTA-WWU is able to accept donations via the Western Foundation, a 501(c)3 nonprofit, so your contributions are 100% tax-deductible.

» I’m interested in becoming involved! Where do I sign up?

The best way to get involved is by coming to a meeting. We usually meet twice a week both when school is in session and during the summer. You can also send us an e-mail and let us know you’re interested, or join one of our mailing lists.

» Do I need to be an expert on computers to be a club member?

No! We can teach you the basic skills you will need to know to refurbish computers. Also, there are many other things GTA-WWU does besides fixing computers. Skills in marketing, fundraising, design, and teaching are helpful, but if you are just a passionate individual who wants to help out with a great cause we would love to have you!

» Have any other questions about who we are and what we do? Ask! We love to get e-mails!
