The legacy of GTA

Global Technology Academy (GTA) was founded in 1998 by Kjell Rye and originally ran out of Garfield High School in Seattle, Washington. The first project brought 6 computers and 8 students to Mexico for one small computer lab.

As the program began to pick up pace, we dealt with upwards of 400 computers and 30 students per trip with multiple sites per country.

In the Spring of 2008 GTA was disbanded by Kjell Rye due to his desire to spend more time with his family, on top of increasing tensions with school district travel policies. The disbandment of GTA prompted a number of other organizations to carry on the GTA Legacy, one of them being GTA-WWU.
